Danny couldn't beat his fever. Tylenol would help, but as soon as it wore off, he was burning up again. Between noon on Friday and noon today, his temps were between 101 and 104, usually hovering around 103. He definitely was not feeling like himself, and so neither were we.
We thought things were looking up this morning because he was acting more like himself, though he still had a temp. Just before 2:00, as we were taking Easter lunch/dinner out of the oven, I took his temp. The thermometer said 107.1. Surely that wasn't right! After jump starting my heart, I took it again and it said 106.8. I probably should have tested the thermometer on myself or waited a minute to check again, but I couldn't do anything but say "we're going to the hospital!"
After 3 days of fever and then this crazy temp, I couldn't take it anymore. At the ER, his temp was 103.4, so much less of a freaky number. After a big ol' dose of Tylenol he thought that everyone at the hospital was awesome. He was in the best mood he's been in all weekend.
In the end, he came away with a diagnosis of an infection in each ear and a prescription for antibiotics. Luckily we were only there for an hour and a half and the diagnosis is an easy one.
We have a 12 month well appointment tomorrow, so we probably could have given him more Tylenol at home and just waited until tomorrow to see the doctor, but three days of fever (and infection) is a long time. He hasn't been pulling at his ears but has been congested. Poor thing, no wonder he hasn't felt like himself all weekend.
Anyway, we're going to buy a new thermometer cause it sounds like maybe ours is on the fritz. Though when we got home, I put it in the crook of my arm and it said 97.5..but I digress.
We got home, reheated our dinner, and enjoyed ham, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus (+ carrots for Danny). Oh an homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert!
So we had an exciting day after a pretty boring weekend with a sick kiddo. I'm taking the day off tomorrow and hopefully the antibiotics will have him feeling better in no time.
Yowza.
