New Sounds

Danny likes making this new sound...

And he also likes having two cups.  One water and one milk.  He just carries those things around everywhere.  We just have to make sure he doesn't lose the cup of milk cause no one wants to find that days later...bleh.

Chef Daniel

Oh some of the crafts that Danny comes home from daycare with are just ridiculous...like this chef hat!

Haven't shared his art projects in awhile, but he's got some pretty darned cute ones!  I also bought him some crayons the other day and he's slowly learning to color with them instead of eat them.

Sunday Funday

We had a failed attempt at a hike up around 6,000 ft yesterday due to too much mud, so we instead went for a walk on Thompson Road.

Felt a little bad for Danny who got very excited to be in the hiking pack for about 100 yards during our first attempt.

But he was happy to be out and about on Thompson Road after we loaded him back in the car and drove down the mountain a bit.

The hike was slow, as you might imagine it would be when walking at a one year old pace.

Though Danny still needed to make sure his slow poke parents were coming.

After some lunch and a nap, we finally got to try out the new kiddie pool!  It was pretty awesome!

Despite the look on his face, Danny liked getting water poured on his head.  I thought it made for some pretty fun pictures.  I swear we weren't torturing him.

And yes, he is playing with the mesh sieve in the pool.  Don't ask.

A great day!

Easter

Oy, our weekend, and especially our day today, didn't go as planned.

Danny couldn't beat his fever.  Tylenol would help, but as soon as it wore off, he was burning up again.  Between noon on Friday and noon today, his temps were between 101 and 104, usually hovering around 103.  He definitely was not feeling like himself, and so neither were we.

We thought things were looking up this morning because he was acting more like himself, though he still had a temp.  Just before 2:00, as we were taking Easter lunch/dinner out of the oven, I took his temp.  The thermometer said 107.1.  Surely that wasn't right!  After jump starting my heart, I took it again and it said 106.8.  I probably should have tested the thermometer on myself or waited a minute to check again, but I couldn't do anything but say "we're going to the hospital!"

After 3 days of fever and then this crazy temp, I couldn't take it anymore.  At the ER, his temp was 103.4, so much less of a freaky number.  After a big ol' dose of Tylenol he thought that everyone at the hospital was awesome.  He was in the best mood he's been in all weekend.

In the end, he came away with a diagnosis of an infection in each ear and a prescription for antibiotics.  Luckily we were only there for an hour and a half and the diagnosis is an easy one.

We have a 12 month well appointment tomorrow, so we probably could have given him more Tylenol at home and just waited until tomorrow to see the doctor, but three days of fever (and infection) is a long time.  He hasn't been pulling at his ears but has been congested.  Poor thing, no wonder he hasn't felt like himself all weekend.

Anyway, we're going to buy a new thermometer cause it sounds like maybe ours is on the fritz.  Though when we got home, I put it in the crook of my arm and it said 97.5..but I digress.

We got home, reheated our dinner, and enjoyed ham, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus (+ carrots for Danny).  Oh an homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert!

So we had an exciting day after a pretty boring weekend with a sick kiddo.  I'm taking the day off tomorrow and hopefully the antibiotics will have him feeling better in no time.

Yowza.

Another Fever

Blah, Danny started not feeling so good yesterday afternoon with a fever of 101.

We had a rough night last night and he woke up with a fever of 103.

'

He's certainly not feeling well and doesn't stay awake for long before it's time for another nap.  I guess we're not doing much today.

Hope this fever breaks soon and he's feeling back to himself.  A sick kiddo is no fun!

It's My Birthday, I Can Cry if I Want To

You know how some people seriously hate when people sing "Happy Birthday" to them?

Meet Daniel Schad, age 1.

Testing Out the Pool

Uh, guys, I really like the pool, but I think maybe it's missing something...

And finally a picture that Tom sent me while I was in the living room and he's in the bedroom trying to get Danny down for a nap..

Ahh, that one cracks me up!

Happy Birthday!

Daniel is ONE!

On April 13, 2016 at 6:26am, this little bean was born!

And what a year it's been!  So glad we have the blog to look back on.  Hard to believe how much he's grown (he was never that small, was he?!).  I can't believe how lucky we are.

We had a great day today full of birthday fun!  Daycare was closed today so Danny came to school with me.  He was completely exhausted by the end of my first class and ended up crying the entire time the kids were singing Happy Birthday to him...video forthcoming.

Then we got to go home and nap, relax, and play until Tom came home while I went back to work.  After work, the real birthday fun began!

Daniel got a balloon to play with!

When we got home from Seabury, we opened presents.

We didn't really get any smiles because Danny was very focused on what was new.  Presents!  Hats!  Colors!  Etc!

He really loves his new stacking blocks.

Loved his new books from his aunts!

And then of course after dinner, it was cupcake time.  Daniel's first ever sugar (not counting natural sugars in fruits and veggies).  Home made funfetti cupcakes!

It took awhile before he actually ate any of the cupcake or icing.  He was playing with it for quite some time.  Once he did take a bite, he didn't really have any noticeable reaction except that he would have kept eating and eating it.  We took it away after a couple bites.

I think he had a great birthday and has some fun new toys to play with, books to read, and clothes to wear.  We're planning to enjoy our 3 day weekend by testing our his new kiddie pool, taking family photos, and relaxing.

Many more photos to come!

Happy birthday to our favorite little guy!
