Memorial Day Picnic

Yesterday evening we packed up some dinner, blankets, and books and went to the park for a picnic.  Daniel really likes being outside and getting some fresh air.  It was chilly though!  I mean, Maui chilly, but still!  I put on a light jacket and we covered the boy in a blanket.

He was having a great time and gave us some pretty awesome smiles.  Naturally I took lots of pictures.

He fell asleep outside and looked like a happy camper.  Unfortunately, even though this particular park is literally right outside our back door, we have to drive to get there.  We have a fence and no gate between our patio and the park.  I keep wondering if we (Tom) offered to put in the gate, would our landlord pay for the materials.  Hmm...

Aloha

My Hawaiian boys rocking their aloha shirts at an end of the year party at Seabury.  This weekend Daniel went to his first luau and this aloha party (both at Seabury).

The little guy looked ridiculous in his aloha shirt and khakis.  If he didn't look like an old man before...he sure did in that outfit.  We didn't take any pictures besides this one, which doesn't really do it justice, but we were too busy enjoying ourselves to take photos.

Sunday Afternoon

Well, at least one of them is napping...

Wailea Sunset

We had a great evening in Wailea yesterday that ended with watching the sunset on a grassy hill above the beach.  It was better than TV.

Daniel looks like he's dreaming about a post-sunset ice cream cone.

Maui no ka oi.

Aw geez, Dad!  Aw geez!

Who is this lady who feeds me so much I have a double chin?

Smiles

We're starting to see some real smiles!  He was full of them this morning while playing.  I was able to catch some on camera.  Too much fun!

Piano

If there's ever a day when daycare is closed but Seabury is open, this is probably what it'll look like.

I had to go to school to work on Baccalaureate music with the kids this morning.  After a bit of fussing, Danny was happy to sleep in the carrier as I worked.

Play time

Really he's just mostly wiggling around and nothing that he is doing is on purpose, but I just love it.  The piano is my favorite.

Resemblance

In case anyone was wondering if I looked like my mom and Kate, here's a picture that I think proves it.  Keck genes are strong...though I think Daniel definitely looks like a Schad (also strong genes.  Have you seen Tom and his siblings?).

But also he looks like a baby.  I always thought it was funny when people said a baby looked more like one person than another...they always just look like babies.  Now here I am saying that Danny looks like his dad.  It'll be interesting and exciting to watch him grow and change!

Seabury Visit

Today I went into Seabury to teach the song for Baccalaureate (why I'm working on my maternity leave is a very long story).  Don't worry, I'm volunteering to do it, the school isn't making me go in, and truthfully it was really fun to work with the kids again.  Though they were much more interested in meeting Daniel than singing.

He was a champion and displayed lots of cuteness and very little fussiness.  The kids didn't get to touch or hold him, but he let a colleague of mine feed and hold him while I played piano.

At one point, he fell asleep in my arms and I put him on the floor.  He slept as the kids sang for a good chunk of time.  Of course, the kids were very distracted, but in the best way.  Here he is, just passed out on the floor as middle school craziness was going on around him.

And for fun, here's a photo from this morning when he was practicing standing.

I know I'm biased, but what a pie!

Sleepy boy

I take lots of pictures of Daniel sleeping.  My phone storage is going to fill up with photos, most of when he's sleeping I think.  It's just so peaceful and cute.

But check out this comparison...

Here's a photo from April 15, when he was 2 days old..

And from today..

He's growing!  And now some more sleepy photos just for fun..

I also think the abandoned pacifier is pretty cute.  More awake/aware photos coming at some point.

PJs

First, I'm obsessed with these pajamas.  He looks like a little elf.

Second, look at the expression on his face!  This one is too fun to caption.  More likely than not he's thinking something along the lines of, "Who are these crazy people?  Do I really share their genes?"

Blue skies

Today is the first time we've seen a bit of blue sky and some sun in 4-5 days and I've got a little boy who chooses to fuss rather than nap in the morning.  So, I decided to load him up in the carrier and take a walk.  We both got some fresh air, I got some exercise, and Daniel fell asleep about two minutes into our walk.  Win/win!

Now here's hoping he stays asleep long enough for me to either shower or bake a pie for Tom's birthday...

Laundry Day

We're folding and sorting laundry and someone is sleeping on the job!  I'll let him get away with it for now, but in a couple of weeks it'll be time for this little fella to start earning his keep :-).

Maui Gold

In response to my Dad sending me a text with a prized pineapple out on the picnic table in Texas, ready to be sliced, Danny wanted to send his grandpa a pic of his prize Maui Gold pineapple.

Thanks go out to Aunt Emmy for holding Daniel up to the pineapple.

Mother's Day

It's a chilly, rainy Maui day.  We've all enjoyed lots of lazy, pajama time.  We made a good breakfast and went out for a nice lunch.

Now we're all cuddled up with blankets and pillows on the living room floor.  No complaints here!

First Piano Lesson

It's never too early to start a solid music education, so our 3 week old had his first piano lesson today.  Sure he uses his feet instead of his hands, but he was rocking out!

He was actually grabbing at some of the toys on the activity bar too...I swear.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't me just wanting him to interact, I think he really was playing a bit.  And we spent a good 10 minutes or so with the activity mat...which in newborn minutes is a long time!

Mini Photo Shoot

My students sent me cards and messages of congratulations so I wanted to take a few pictures of Daniel with the cards to send to them as a thank you.

Some of the pictures were just too good not to share with ya'll, so here we go!

Pretty close to a smile!  He's been practicing but it's hard to catch on camera.

I don't know why, but I think crying pictures are pretty darned cute!

A big yawn.  I told my students he was practicing his "ah" vowel shape, just like they do.

He's thinking about something...

Sucking His Thumb

Another post-bath picture.  Daniel seemed somewhat confused but content during his bath.  Afterwards he really liked snuggling up in his towel.  You can't quite tell by this picture but he immediately started sucking his thumb (time to start saving for braces now I reckon).  He was looking super cute and we enjoyed our little cuddle...

...until I felt warm liquid ALL over my pants.  That's what I get for cuddling a naked baby.
